From Innovation to Deployment: Reflections from Third Derivative’s Latest Climate Tech Cohort
22 May 2025 | Gardens by the Bay, Singapore
Widuz is proud to have participated in a recent climate technology pitching session hosted by Third Derivative at Gardens by the Bay, Singapore, joining a global cohort of startups developing solutions for some of today’s most pressing climate and sustainability challenges.
As part of Third Derivative’s latest cohort, Widuz had the opportunity to present our engineered bamboo solutions alongside companies advancing innovations across industrial decarbonisation, energy systems, infrastructure, cooling technologies, carbon management, and critical materials.
The event brought together founders, investors, ecosystem partners, and climate leaders focused on accelerating the deployment of scalable climate solutions. More than just a pitching platform, the session highlighted a growing shift within climate technology — from innovation alone toward real-world implementation and adoption.
Representing Widuz, our COO, Mr. Ong Yean Chau, shared how engineered bamboo can contribute to the transition toward lower-carbon materials across furniture, interiors, construction, and everyday applications. By transforming fast-regenerating bamboo into durable, high-performance engineered materials, Widuz aims to provide practical alternatives that combine sustainability, functionality, and design.
One of the strongest takeaways from the event was the readiness of the participating companies. Many startups within the cohort are already approaching early commercial deployment, reflecting how the climate technology conversation is increasingly centred on scalability, adoption, and execution.
For Widuz, this strongly resonates with our own journey. While bamboo has long been recognised for its strength, renewability, and design potential, broader adoption depends on more than material performance alone. Confidence in durability, consistency, usability, and supply reliability remains critical in bringing sustainable materials into mainstream use.
“Being part of the Third Derivative ecosystem reinforces our belief that climate innovation must ultimately translate into real-world impact. We look forward to continuing our work with partners across the built environment, materials, and climate sectors to help accelerate the adoption of sustainable material solutions,”
said Mr. Ong Yean Chau, COO of Widuz.
Widuz extends our sincere appreciation to the Third Derivative team, fellow founders, investors, mentors, and ecosystem partners for the opportunity to participate in this global climate innovation community. We are honoured to contribute alongside companies working collectively to advance solutions for a more sustainable future.
